First thing Thursday morning found me at Mablethorpe on work matters. When I'd got these seen to, it was only 'reasonable' to have a quick break on the seafront to see if there were any waves. As forecast there was some swell, an almost glassy couple of foot or so; more the pity I didn't have the time nor the board with me! Yesterday, I managed to call in for a quick peep at Skeg only to find it blown out and onshore. There was though hope that there might be a window of opportunity for me today, and that the weather was going to play ball.

There was; and it did. A text in the morning from Russ, confirmed the expected wave and after karting with Ben in the morning, things opened up for me to get over to Chapel Point around lunchtime. Met up with Russ who'd been in in the morning, who reported that it had cleaned up even more as high tide had passed [11.14am] with the rip backing off some too. It had apparently been quite hectic earlier at Huttoft which had put him off going in there after seeing the struggle Rob was having firstly getting out; and then maintaining some kind of positioning. After a brief observation and chat with Russ, I got suited up and in around 1pm with the break to myself..

First time here to surf personally, so I took a short while getting bearings before picking up my first wave to the hoots from Suz, who'd come along to take some photos and watch; and Russ, who hung around for a while longer. Although not the classic 'point break', the effect here with it's predominance for lefts, proved very appetising. With the tide going out, and some obvious wind driven swell mixing up with the fun 2-3' sets coming in, fears that it would die off pretty soon were unfounded. As it materialised I picked off plenty of nice waves which hopefully should provide a photo display on the site once the film is finished off and developed. Watch this space.

Used the Snugg 4-3 for the first time this autumn today..which was nice and toasty. Pleased that my paddling felt as strong as ever too, after a good year weight and fitness wise. Now I just hope that for the remainder of my time over here in the east, however long that may be, this string of swells we've had of late continue well into the winter to keep me on top of it.
