Having missed out a couple of weeks back, more through indecision than anything else, Ben and I shot over to Sandilands late on yesterday to get in for an hour before dark.
Naips had rung me earlier in the day to let me know conditions were good and likely to improve even though he himself was unable to get in following surgery on his knee. That was enough to convince me to make the effort later, subject to any unforeseen delays etc. Thus it was, the boards and kit were loaded and we were off by 4.15.
Less than an hour later and we were suited and in, having arrived to find a nice clean, almost glassy 2-3' with the tide just turning after low. Happily it didn't take us long to get our first waves to get into some kind of rhythm following our 2 month lay off. Despite the conditions though, the wave quality wasn't at this stage of the tide particularly good. But that didn't matter, what did was to get wet, ride what was going and shake out any cobwebs before our travels later this week. Ben in particular is looking forward to getting down and picking up his new log. I suspect I won't here the last of this just yet!
