"Bournemouth works when there is a low pressure zone just off or in the Bay of Biscay. The piers can get busy and are not that good; but can give some nice rights. Like anywhere along the south, is more sheltered then Cornwall and so can take a storm swell and calm it down."
"Kimmeridge is a top spot as long as the wind is right, really needs to be NW-erly else it really messes up. Bournemouth is alright, though just along the beach a bit is Boscombe. You can get a bit of shelter from SW-erly behind either pier, though Boscombe has a lot less aggro than Bournemouth."
"Bournemouth has a number of spots - depends on what you want. The piers of Southbourne and the main one in town sometimes get some decent banks and some good waves at low to mid tide unless a big swell working when it's whitewater city all round! You can check up and down the beach as waves sometimes appear depending on how the banks have shifted. If you're up for a bit of a drive Kimmeridge gets some of the best waves in the area. It's a reef break and getting in and out can be a bit hairy on a good swell but well worth it and the waves can be of good quality."
"Southbourne east of Boscombe can get waves even when the piers are flat. Even Highlife near Christchurch picks up the same amount of swell as Kimmeridge."
"The best shops in the Bournemouth area for second hand boards are Hot Rocks (01202 780770), Freeride (01202 708555) and Oceanos. As for surf breaks the piers are not bad but get very crowded. Branksome in Poole is one of the best waves in the area for beginners."
