"There is a school in Famara set up by a really nice couple from S.Wales,
Tim and Mary Jones at Lanzarote Surf School-they are very good teachers. They do all tuition up to competition level so it may be worth getting in touch with them even for one lesson just to get the info on the local area as they know it ++ well. Famara's really nice as its a world away from all the crazy British drunkeness on the other side on the island-just a tiny fishing village really and we got a cheap apartment there too."

"Lanzarote is really only good if you are willing to hire a car or if you are willing to stay in La Santa which has only reef breaks and picks up heaps of swell so not advised."

"Sunscreen is a must throughout the year, summer and winter. Use a rashie as well as this helps."

"Famara Beach in the north is a good spot for beginners, but may be a bit too fickle if you're beyond this level"

"San Juan has an excellent left"

"La Santa has a surf shop which does ding repairs. You'll get away with a short sleeve summer steamer during the winter; and a shortie or board shorts during the summer. Boots are must because of the reefs and urchins"

"Playa de la Canteria needs a large swell to work properly"
