" Swell direction seems to be a lot more important in both NZ and OZ"

N Island
Warm in Summer. Springsuit or shortie.

Raglan:
Left hand point about 5 miles E of Raglan town. Three points to choose from. Very consistent but reefy. Easy to get out. Offshore-Southerly. Swell dir-SW-NW

Gisborne:
(E coast) Mostly beach breaks. Consistent, slightly tricky paddles. Shit hot locals. Off-W,Swell dir-NE-SE

Northland:
Beack breaks, hollow but inconsistent. Beautiful scenery and quiet. Off-W, Swell-NE-E

Taranaki:
Consistent beach and reef breaks. Heavy. Off on all but W. Swell-SW-NW.

Wairarapa:
Beach and reef breaks. Quiet and tranquil. Off-W,Swell-NE-SE

South Island
Much cooler, mostly reefs.

Kaikoura:
Three points but reefy. Very consistent due to continental shelf dropping to 2000m in 1km. Heavy, very long rides. Nearly all rights. Gobsmacking scenery. Off-SW-NW. Swell-Big S round to NE.

Dunedin:
Reefs and beach. Consistent BUT loads of G White sharks! Avoided it. Good music scene. Off-SW-NW. Swell-NE-Big S.
