My Intro to surfing
I remember from 1970 onwards going on holiday to Devon & Cornwall with great affection. My brother, Mick, had a farm not too far from Bude; and so my first links with the area were made. I don't recall any surfing activity from that time, although I'm sure it was there, if only in it's infancy. However, I remember dipping out on hiring a malibu board, when the family hols' became centred around Westward Ho! circa 1972-3. If only I had seen the light then, and not waited until 95-96 ! It's all Suzi's fault; so if you meet me in the line-up, and feel the need to question my very existence; then blame her! She was the one who encouraged the purchase of one of those polystyrene.... boogie boards (forgive me).

Until that point, the thought of spending any length of time near a beach, had, over the years become alien to me. Not any more. From the very first time I felt that raw natural power pick me up, and take me at speed towards the shore; I knew I wanted some of this. Memories of those missed chances, 20 plus years before, came flooding back; and a fresh challenge was introduced to my life. I did an intro course at Outdoor Adventure of Bude, Cornwall; and haven't looked back. Progress has been slow, but then opportunity has been restricted. What hasn't wilted, is my enthusiasm. OK, there have been sessions where I have trudged out of the water, wondering why on earth I just don't accept that I am no good at this. Why not sell the gear, and take it easier ? I only have to look back over my shoulder, and such thoughts are banished. I want a life, and this helps ! [wollocks]
