Car's packed. Boards strapped on. Full tank of gas, and 305 miles ahead. Shall glug some more grog, get some kip then hit the road sometime tomorrow morning. Sounds as if we may have some action to look forward to.....back laters.

Getting head into Kernow mode as we prepare for a jaunt to Bude. May be a meet at Watergate one evening next week, waves willing. Either way look out for the black G reg 'beamer' on the north coast between now and beginning of September with OTL sticker in rear screen, or the log on top. laters

Didn't bother taking the board to Cromer yesterday as it would have been more hassle than it was worth. As it turned out it was probably the wisest move, certainly by the end of the afternoon [LT] when it had flattened off. There were a couple out by the pier getting a ride every now and then in 1-2 ft clean waves. There were also a handful further down at Runton probably getting similar, but it was obvious the swell was on it's way out. Would have been pleasant for an hour or so though.....

Ceefax put Cayton at 4-6' yesterday morning. The weather locally was relatively calm with the breeze in W-NW, although I figured that the daytime may be spoiled by some onshore sea breezes. Maybe, just maybe, this evening could provide a wave at Skeg'.[HT 9.22pm]

I checked with Coogee after 4pm and they seemed confident of it being good for the evening push; although 4' seemed a little ambitious. Naips had had some surf on the morning tide, so all seemed in place to go. Got there at around 5.30 and it was crap to say the least. Woll was not a happy bunny! Decided to hang around and see if it improved [as ever], but even nearly an hour later it was not inspiring. One or two 'faces' had turned up by now and, gradually some signs of a wave did begin to show. By 7pm things had cleaned and built a bit and we were in. It was maybe a couple of foot at best, but for the first time since last year I was actually enjoying surfing here. I ended up getting out around 8.30, feeling a lot more content. I'd caught some waves, one in particular reminded me of that session at Widdy last year; the first on my longboard, where everything seemed dialled in. There wasn't much power or speed to these waves though, and I could tell when we were nearing HT when I got dumped a couple of times on ever increasing steep take offs. The drive home was carried out in a lot more relaxed mode than I've had of late. Such is the power of an enjoyable surf.

With that low currently moving over the North Sea, it looks as if something may kick off in the next couple of days. Looks as if it could suit Norfolk in particular, but with Skeg' only the other side of the Wash, we could be on. Shall check the tides and maybe give Coogee a ring tomorrow if the wind drops locally.

With Soul suggesting there might be an east coast wave by Thursday; albeit small, I'll keep my eye closer on the charts. Having seen a live local news feature on TV tonight further up the coast at Filey, l'm not holding my breath. It was as flat as the proverbial flattest thing which means it was even smaller at Skeg'! Suz and I have plans to meet some friends at Cromer on Saturday though. If there's a wave then, I shall have to take the board regardless and be unsociable for a while ;o)

Not a sniff of a wave at the mo' locally. Keeping an eye on those low's that seem to be skirting north, but it's not looking inspiring. Shall have to turn attention to finding somewhere practical to hang the board indoors. Practical..yes.....exciting..nah!

Secret Spot has had a bit of a makeover in an excrutiating time surfwise for me. Looking back you'll see no entries in the log [formerly known as Diary] since early June. Primarily this has been due to continuing lack of 'action' at nearby Skeg, and the inability to find time to travel further afield. The one occasion I did get the chance to strap the board on top of the motor, and the swell was found to have died on me. This was about a week or so ago, and was a case of you should have been here yesterday!! Oh well, it's off west in a couple of weeks, so hopefully an early autumn swell or two will go towards cheering me up on that score.

Anyways, hope you like the new log format which will hopefully increase the rate of input. May look into expanding this further too..we'll see. Either way, I'm looking at ways to compensate for Suz and I's decision to reluctantly put our move west on hold ....
