Slight change of plans for the trip west next week insofar as we have at least one extra day/night in Bude offered. This means the planned overnight stop in Barnstable on Friday isn't required. Pity it seems that it could be blown out over the weekend. Never mind, a no-go day down west far exceeds one up here!

2002 has been a dire year surf wise for me, particularly here on my 'local' patch in Lincolnshire. The Cornish trips have been fun and revitalising, and, hopefully our third from next Friday [25th] will be the same. But here...jeez!
Since what must have been my best ever session there in Feb [
recap here], things have got from bad to worse. Sure, work committments have lessened the opportunity [for the time being] to get to the coast, but it does seem that whenever a window does present itself, Neptune just doesn't want to play ball. For the last couple of days, I've heard from Naips [not for the first time of late!] of some good sessions, he, Rob and Russ have had,; so surely it could have held just one more day till today? Nah! Ceefax had Cayton at 2-3 and clean, so assuming the threatend change in the weather could hold off till dark, I'd be in. OK it may only be waisthigh at best, but, after [yet another] 2 month 'lay-off', I'd manage to enjoy a surf.
Should have known better I guess. With HT not until about 6.30-7pm, I planned to set off around 3 to arrive around mid-tide where you get the first indications of a wave. It had been still all day, but around 2 the first signs of a breeze disturbed the bushes outside our house, and my heart sunk. All the same, I decided to hop in the motor and have a look anyway. Stranger things have happened, why not now? On arrival, my fears were confirmed. The onshore breeze was quite stiff, and increasing, but even this wasn't whipping up even a messy wave to get wet for. What ripples there were, were barely a foot at best. I hung around for while and wandered up and down the beach, just hoping for the [often] sudden chnage from nothing to a ridable wave; but quite frankly it just wasn't going to happen, was it?! Roll on Friday, and the chance to go 'home'. No guarantees of a wave there obviously, but at least the ocean there is more pleasing to look at on a bad day. laters....
