As yesterday progressed, it did look increasingly as if conditions would not last into today after all; with the breeze already swinging round to the south east, and the likelihood that the swell would drop also according to ceefax.

I decided to have a look anyway as there was little or no wind when I looked outside around 6.45am. Worryingly as I got closer to the coast though, there was more and more movement in the trees and bushes. And so it was as I pulled into Huttoft, I was greeted with a sea being messed up by a persistant onshore breeze. There were though signs of there being an equivalent if not slightly bigger wave than yesterday, so I decided to hang on a bit and see if it improved some as the tide receeded and got onto the banks. Similar peaks seemed to be there so I got in just before 9am, an hour after HT.

It was clear while paddling out that the chop was increasing with more and more windswell from the south east starting to muck it up. However there were some waves to get into, and my mind went back to some of the summer sessions in Cornwall on onshore days, and how much fun they turned into. Getting into these waves though proved trickier with a lot of bumpy stuff upsetting the take off's. That said, I did manage to generally combat this, though the resulting rides were more 'point and go' towards shore, rather than anything with more finesse. Not that I'd boast of such qualities in general of course!

An hour in the water proved enough though. The temptation of a bite to eat when I got home, and to settle down in front of the TV to watch England stuff Georgia at rugby, and a re-run of this morning's Japanese GP was more than what was on offer here. Reckon that could be it for a while but as a start to the autumn, this last 3 weeks have been promising. More please Big G.

Waves seem to have been with us on the east coast more or less all week, and the promise was for them to last into this w/e. Couldn't get during the week because of work, but was on standby for an 'early' this morning if the local wind played ball. Woke up around 6.30 to find that it was, so decided to go for it when Russ texted me around 7 to say that it was 1-2' though marginal at Mablethorpe. I figured that this should improve a little when the tide withdrew back to the banks after HT [7.28].

I arrived at Huttoft to find one other surfer suiting up and was in myself around 8.30. There were some nice peaks forming, that were being gently fanned by a light offshore breeze. The sun too was coming out and the chance of pleasant early autumn surf was in prospect. And so it turned out as I was straight into some nice long rides right from the start. For a short while too, the waves increased in size to nearer 3', though this didn't last anywhere long enough. Not long after these disappeared, so did any other ridable wave and so I got around 10.15 happy with my lot, and hoping the forecast increase in swell for tomorrow goes off. Will report back tomorrow if this is the case.

Ended up being a good call waiting for today. Went over to Skeggy around noon and found it absolutely spot on. At least it looked it. A solid 2-3' and clean as a whistle even if the NW offshore was a bit strong at times. Naips and Rus' turned up around 1.15 and we were in not much after 1.30; two hours before HT. Looks were deceptive though, and it took me at least more than half an hour to get dialled into the slower than they looked waves. The first one was a gem and from that point rides became more and more regular.

With it building as the tide came in further I opted to go for the larger stuff, as it was doing it's usual shorey tricks. It meant less rides than say Rus was getting but they tended to be well fun! Got one or two cover up's of sorts, though to be truthful they were more a case of me leaning too acutely into the waves, even to the point of pulling out. Still it no doubt entertained the spectators on the beach, enjoying the sunny if cool weather.

Talking of cool. It's definitely time for boots now and maybe even the Snugg suit. I went in bare foot and it certainly felt it when I eventually got out around 5pm. Poor things were froz! May get away without gloves for a while longer. We'll see. Maybe later in the week too, if work doesn't get in the wayas it's forecast for another northerly blow from Tues onwards.

More swell over here on east coast. Suspect that today may be a little too blowy so am waiting for the breeze to drop tomorrow. Should have headed to Hut' last Sat morning by all accounts. Still can only do what I can do. Reckon on getting wet tomorrow. naips and co will be there. Hopefully Brox can make the trek also. Update tomorrow/Monday.
