Two weeks into getting the ankle back to fitness and it does seem that after an initial period of progress, recovery does seem to have ground to a halt. It's not all bad; the swelling is now reduced to just around the ankle itself, bruising is still significant but not as colourful, and I am now more mobile. However, there is still pain, in some ways more noticeable than earlier, and it does seem that it could be 2 or more weeks before I can really test it.

It should be no surprise therefore that my predictions of "relentless swells down the east coast now!" , seem to be being realised :o( Naips texted me yesterday with reports of a solid and clean 4-6' swell along the Lincs coast, with occasional 8' sneakers!!!! Russ has picked up a rib injury following a coming together with a groyne on one particularly heavy wipeout. Seems 2 of the crew are now on the injury list!

Ended up going to A & E yesterday afternoon after visiting the doc. Checkover and X-ray showed no breaks or cracks which is good; but anything from 3-8 weeks recovery; potentially not good. I'm hoping to turn that round nearer the 3 week+ mark, and the signs today could prove that right. Will update any significant progress...

[Of course you realise there'll now be a series of relentless swells down the east coast now!]

Feeling a bit sorry for myself today as I may have to curtail any surfing for a while, following a jogging accident last night. I'll post a bit more info after I've seen the doc later, but the bottomline is I've injured my left ankle in a fall. Nothing broke I'm 99% sure, but having slipped on an uneven bit of ground and stumbled very awkwardly over, it looks as if it could be a while before the ligaments or whatever knit back together. The hobbling wreck now bouncing off all the walls and looking pretty pathetic, is not a pretty sight!

The only doubt about today was whether the wind was going to play ball. I woke around 7am and could hear through the open window a brisk and gusty breeze. Sure it wasn't until this afternoon when I'd planned on going, but the forecast yesterday was for it to pick as the afternoon wore on. The only hope was for the forecast to be a little out, and that it may drop off instead through the morning; particularly as it was a NE'erly. To be fair, it did seem to, but then it was likely to be a different story at the coast. Either way, an exchange of texts with Naips and it was over to Mablethorpe to catch it from mid tide on.

As presumed, it was about 2-3' when I met up with Naips, Russ & Rob....but as onshore and messy as you never wish for. It looked as if there was a strong cross-shore rip to add to our woes, however, with no wave action for at least 5 weeks, it seemed rude not to go in. As feared it proved to be an awful lot of effort for very little reward, but then sometimes you just have to take it on the chin conditions-wise. An hour an a half of reforms and very little else was better than nothing. And, to be fair, once the tide had come in a bit more, a haphazard channel did appear near the groyne/outfall[?] that did allow more consistent progress paddling wise into what passed as a peak.

Looks as if it may improve for tomorrow, just as I'm not free! Before dropping off for the week. Maybe some waves next weekend if the long term forecast holds. Though I'm not holding my breath...

Looks as if we may get something up here over the w/e. Now just got to manoeuvre all plans to making sure I can get to the coast tomorrow afternoon. [Sunday a no-no regardless of conditions]
